What is a Mantra Anyway?

A simple way to look at repeated word or sound.

A mantra is a word of phrase repeated frequently. Originally rooted in Buddhism and Hinduism, it helps to focus the mind and develop concentration. A mantra doesn't have to be "religious." It can be any phrase or word that is important to you like "I am peace."

Here's an example of a Hindu mantra:

Lokah Samastah Sukinoh Bhavantu

May all beings be happy & free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute to that happiness & freedom for all.

Here's an example of a modern mantra:

I am Peace. I am Free

How to Use a Mantra

Choose a mantra that speaks to you. It can be anything, as long as it is important to you. Choose a comfortable spot, have a seat and take a few, deep breaths. Begin to repeat your mantra out lout or in your head. You can set a timer or repeat your mantra a certain number of times. Repeat that mantra to yourself throughout your day.

Meditation with mantra can help with all sorts of medical conditions, and imbalances. Reach out via the contact form or email me at yogatherapyssm@gmail.com if you are interested in seeing how meditation can help you.
